Getting Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell on Brighton Beach, England - UK

This was my first trip to England during the summer, so of course we had to spend at least one day in Brighton. I don’t know what I was expecting because it was hotter than I’m used to since I live in essentially almost year-round sunshine and mild to hot temps (with the rising heat waves every summer). I mean this was epic hot temps we were experiencing while just in Southern England on the coast, I think I was just so conditioned for rainy, dreary England days.

We took full advantage of the clear, sunny, hot day with a boardwalk stroll and down onto the beach to stop by the Brighton Shellfish & Oyster shack on the seafront. 🦪 1/2 dozen for £10 or £1.80 each (Jersey oysters were available that day - medium sized, and perfect amount of sweet/saltiness) - and I dressed them with the homemade sauces like the lime and chili or shallot vinegar. You can also get a variety of other seafood like crab, prawns, mussels, crayfish, squid, octopus, whelks and lobster rolls - and English staples like jellied eels (can be packed with free ice packs to take home).

I’ve always walked by this seafood spot but it’s usually closed as I’ve usually visited during the winter or it’s too chilly for me to enjoy seafood. Their Union Jack flags will be displayed showing they are open. Located in the Fishing Quarter of the beach, access the seafood bar:
On foot you can stroll from Brighton Railway Station towards the Brighton pier along the beach and you will stroll right past us. Or from the pier just follow the lower promenade back towards the West Street tunnel towards the station.
