Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles (NRT to LAX)
Although we got to enjoy the wonders of Singapore Air’s business class from LAX to Narita Airport in Tokyo, we unfortunately didn’t get the same luxury on the way home, but we did get to fly the premium economy product, so at least I can share that experience! We actually originally had booked premium economy round trip, but were able to upgrade for our trip to Tokyo. This was my first time flying Singapore AIr’s premium economy - I liked it and it was comfortable enough, but felt that because my partner was not feeling 100% from his emergency dental procedure in Tokyo (yes he had a tooth pulled), that he was a bit restless, so that affected my travel experience. And he also felt like Singapore Air’s premium economy was not worth the money, and liked Virgin Atlantic’s premium economy product much more. He kept saying he would rather fly SG Air’s economy class, but I think he
Pre-flight, passengers were offered a welcome drink and later, they had their choice of delicious three-course meals from dinner and breakfast (which you’re able to also pre-book your meal options with “Book the Cook” up to 24 hours before the flight). I ordered the:
Gnocchi Mediterranean
Potato gnocchi with roasted vegetables topped with tomato sauce, basil pesto and parmesan cheese.
Pancake with Scrambled Egg
Pancake with apple, raisin and cinnamon compote, scrambled egg and bacon.
The airline had an amazing selection of premium wine and cocktails available as well. The entertainment system had a vast array of games, movies and television shows to choose from, all on a large clear screen; which can be operated by touch-screen or from the pop out remote on the side of the seat.
Singapore Airlines has received numerous accolades for their premium economy class, including "Best Premium Economy Class" by Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2021, and "Best Premium Economy Class in the World" by TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards in 2019.
Singapore Airlines' premium economy seats are designed for travelers who want more space, comfort, and convenience during their long-haul flights. The configuration for this aircraft Boeing 777-330R is 2x4x2 - the seat pitch is at 38 inches, seats are wider at 19.5 inches and have more ample legroom than standard economy seats, providing passengers with extra space to relax and stretch out. The seats also feature a calf and footrest, allowing passengers to elevate their feet and legs for added comfort during their flight. This was just a little awkward of an angle for me, I wish that it would just fully extend to pay flush with the seat. Additionally, the seats come with a larger 13.3-inch touchscreen monitor and noise-cancelling headphones for an enhanced in-flight entertainment experience.
The premium economy cabin also offers a separate check-in counter, priority boarding, and increased baggage allowance, making it more convenient for us to check in. Although the cabin had divider curtains for more privacy, we still had to walk through economy to the back of the plane to use the restrooms. It’s not the walking through economy that is the issue, it’s that there isn’t an easily accessible restroom, and you have to put in more effort to see if the restroom is available. I now have flying/travel anxiety where I’d rather pay to be able to sit with just Scott or someone familiar, so the 2 seat configuration works for me, but I know that can’t always be possible dependent on my budget. But I always appreciate when I can have a wider seat where I can pull up my feet onto the seat. This was an enjoyable enough flight for me, and I would book again if the opportunity arose - I do have to say that I did like my Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy experience more, maybe it was just the vibes because the amenities were comparable to SG air (but we did receive amenity kit from VA and not SG, but that’s not something I absolutely need to have on a flight). I would say other than VA’s amenity kit, passengers’ meal service looked closer to plated courses since each food item looked like it was plated even though it all came out on one tray, and there’s an afternoon tea service after. Have you flown Singapore Air’s premium economy class before? If so what are your thoughts?
