Singapore Airlines Business Class Flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo

This is more of an experiential share than a review of Business Class on Singapore Airlines on a Boeing 777-300ER from LAX to NRT because this is the first time I’ve ever experienced a business class seat so of course I was blown away. I read that Singapore Air does have one of the best business class experiences (comes in second place on skytrax’s world airlines awards for world’s best business class airlines 2022, on Fortune Magazine’s one of 50 most admired companies in the world for 2023 and named Airline of the Year in ATW 2023 Airline Industry Achievement Awards) compared to other airlines, and honestly I can see why, but I also don’t have another business class to compare. All i know is, I’ve been ruined forever (until that miracle that I ever get to experience a suite whilst flying, then I’ll be EXTRA ruined ) when it comes to flying because of course I want to be in at least business class every time for a long haul flight from now on. So here’s how it went for Scott and I, we were like kids in a candy store. We originally paid about $2,400 each for round trip premium economy seats, and were offered the business class upgrade around Christmas for $1,200. We treated ourselves for Christmas and I have no regrets because that means one-way business class was $2,400 whereas if we would have booked the seat originally, we’d be looking at ~$5,000 one way. Perks before departing include a dedicated business class check in desk and access to the Star Alliance Lounge at LAX.

I was really surprised at the amount of stowage space under the seat and within the seat itself. There was one stowage spot in front to the left of the monitor, one to my left side that had a water bottle and headphones stored, and a console to the left behind me next (great for stowing laptop, books & magazines) to the outlet for charging devices and using the headphones.

The seat has two configurations: Lazy Z, a cradling position that ensures your weight is centered and balanced when you’re sitting down, and the Sundeck, a lounging position that extends the base and foot of your seat so you can stretch and rest your legs on the ottoman. When you’re ready to lay down flat, you just request turn down service and the attendant will pull the seat cushions out and forward and set up the linens, duvet and pillows. The laying down position was comfortable for me, but because you do have to lie at an angle to fit your feet through the cubby hole - that could be uncomfortable dependent on your height. I felt like I had more than enough space to move side to side whilst laying down. The pillows were soft, I felt like the duvet could have been a tad wider or fluffier.

The monitor is controlled through a remote docked on the side of the seat, and there are buttons opposite that allow you to automatically adjust your seat position, or call on an attendant. The seat comes with an amenity kit that includes, and you can also request items like an eye mask, socks and slippers. Wifi is also included for the entire duration of the flight, making it so seamless to stay connected.

We received pre-flight drinks, so I ordered a mimosa and also had my “book the cook” meals confirmed by the attendant (Scott and I selected our entrees/mains online prior to the flight)- then after we were settled in and at a cruising altitude, the attendants came around to ensure we had our table pulled out from the side panel and added a linen napkin on top.

I liked everything but the spiced apple cake (it tasted really dense and cold), and my fave dish was the Chinese pork rib noodle soup (even got a side of chili). But overall loving that the food is presented in courses and it tasted like it was cooked in the air 🤤

Throughout the flight, a selection of La Mian & rice noodles, instant noodles and chicken katsu sandwiches along with snacks like chocolate, chips and cookies available. After my dinner meal, I asked for turn down service and the attendant pull out the seat cushions and added on the sheets for me. I honestly can’t rave enough about this Singapore Airlines business class flight - the level of service and detail in every nook and cranny of the seat and amenities, was just pure luxury in the skies. I actually didn’t want to sleep too much because I wanted to enjoy all that the flight had to offer (I also really got sucked into season one of White Lotus). The 10 hour or so flight, felt like half the time because there was so much to take in. If you get to fly like this or better like first class or suites on the regular - LUCKY YOU! I can’t wait to be able to do this again, I want to do it on Singapore Airlines, but also want to be able to experience on other airlines for comparison.
