Celebrating 5 Year Wedding Anniversary with Balboa Park San Diego Trip - Family Portraits
We spent some time exploring as much of the grounds of Balboa Park as possible on our way to Downtown San Diego. I had only ever seen some architectural snaps from Balboa Park, but didn’t realize until I was there just how massive and vast the grounds are. There are so many museums and exhibits to experience, as well as botanical gardens, trails, attractions and more to discover.
We found our way to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, which drew us in from the amazing architecture and row of pillars and pathways. The Spreckels Organ Pavilion in San Diego's Balboa Park is one of the largest outdoor pipe organs in the world. It was built in 1914 for the Panama-California Exposition and contains 4,725 pipes that range in length from 7.5 inches to 32 feet. This ornate vaulted structure with embellished gables was named after John D. Spreckels and Adolph B. Spreckels, one of the wealthiest families living in San Diego at the time. The Spreckels brothers donated the organ and pavilion as a gift to the people of San Diego and the world. Since 1917, it has been tradition to have a civic organist perform for free every Sunday (City of San Diego).
We didn’t get to see the organ in action, but nevertheless a beautiful spot for photos and hanging out! Please enjoy the snaps of all of us in denim! Haha Matching seriously bring me so much joy.
