TeamLab Planets Tokyo - Things to Know
The closing date was extended for teamLab Planets Tokyo, which means Scott and I got to go whilst in Japan. Since I read that there was a water element, I made sure to check if I’d need to wear or not wear certain types of clothing. You will be bareboot througohut the entire exhibit, and overall it took about 1.5 hours, whereas when we did teamLab borderless, we were there for about 3-4 hours. We were able to check in about 30 minutes before our “time slot”. Here what you need to know before you go:
You’ll be barefoot - you’ll be asked to take your shoes & socks off prior to entering (and after you’ve watched the intro/safety video)
There are lockers - just find a locker to place your shoes/socks and other belongings. You won’t want to bring much with you
There are water elements so you’ll want to wear bottoms that are easy to roll up, there are also shorts that can be borrowed if you need them.
After every water exhibit there is a spot to dry your feet
There are also mirror elements in some exhibits, so you’ll want to avoid wearing a skirt, but if you do wear shorts underneath or borrow shorts from teamLab.
Some of these rooms are heated, so don’t be like me where you have 3 layers on, leave any jackets in the locker
Keep kids close to you, this is not a place for kids to be on their own or wander off throughout the exhibits
The only timed space is the floating flower garden
For an adult weekday ticket of $23 (¥3200) , my overall experience surpassed what we paid. I loved the fully immersive exhibits, I could have spent all day in the exhibits if I wasn’t so warm from all of my layers haha. It is quite crowded but the staff does do a really great job at directing crowds and steadily moving people along. This made me feel like I couldn’t spend as much time in some exhibits because I had to keep moving along. As you can see by the instagram reel, the floating flower room was quite crowded and it was difficult to get a solid show knowing that we were very limited on time in that space. The water aspects made it so much different from the teamlab borderless exhibits, and I highly recommend this when visiting Tokyo.
