Trying Skewer Hot Pot at Nice to Meet You in Irvine, CA
Scott showed me this skewer hotpot spot on tik tok so we went to Nice to Meet You in Irvine with @kluueats - not bad!
It’s Chengdu-style skewer hot pot, which I’ve actually never tried before. Last time I had hot pot was back in November 2021 in London at Happy Lamb Hot Pot. So at Nice to Meet You, you’ll pick your soup base/broth(s), then order sliced meats and or choose from the self-serve section:
Apps + Sauce Bar = $2.99/pp
Skewers = $0.48/each
Bowls & Colored Trays of Veggies, Meats, Seafood and Noodles = $3.99 - $22.99
We got 1/2 Mushroom 1/2 Pork Bone (very mild 🌶 ) soup bases. I was excited about the sauce/condiment bar alone 🤣, I only picked simple meat skewers (like beef), and Scott got mushrooms or veggies wrapped in marinated meat skewers. Overall we liked the sliced meats the most but the skewers are fun, and allows you to try a variety of items. I was also in awe of the amount of meats, offals, seafood, veggies and noodles available. I just wish some of the offerings were available in smaller portions. For Scott & I = $86 with tip. Skewers for all three of us including Kevin was only $16 but we added 2 portions of sliced beef belly, drinks, side dishes like quail eggs, crab, etc and the app + sauce bar.
The self serve area can get congested, so the server may suggest waiting before grabbing food. We went earlier in the evening so there was no wait for us to be seated, but I didn’t notice how uncomfortable and crowded it would get in the self serve area. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience, our server was great and we left full!
