Little Sister Now Open at Irvine Spectrum Center
Little Sister has opened its first Orange County location in Irvine at the Irvine Spectrum Center. The restaurant has a location in DTLA and Redondo Beach, with a fourth location opening soon in El Segundo. The East-meet-West menu marries flavors of Southeast Asia and its colonial European influences; they’re dishes that I grew up with and it was exciting to try Chef Vuong’s take on Vietnamese and Southeast Asian staples. Between Scott and I, we had the Nem Nuong Pork Spring Rolls, Pan-Fried e-Fu noodle, Short Rib Banh Mi and a Cactus Cooler Cocktail.
Although the plating is elevated, the Chef pays great homage to his culture through the authentic flavors that I would expect to be in the Vietnamese dishes like the Banh Mi and Spring Rolls. I’m usually weary of higher priced restaurants that make Vietnamese or Asian dishes, as they will usually just scratch the surface with flavors, and I usually expect that the dishes will not compare to hole-in-the-wall favorites, but the tastes were definitely there. I do also like that the untranslated food dish names were included, the menu shouldn’t have to be in English when it’s including these types of authentic dishes.
Very open space inside the restaurant with graffiti art on the walls, mixed with upscale decor elements and embellishments that I would see in a family member’s home (like photos, vases, etc). Enjoy indoor and outdoor dining, make your reservation here. Safety protocols are in place, and there’s an informational sign on each table.
