DIY Boba Bubble Tea Cup Halloween Costume
With Halloween right around the corner I wanted to share this fun boba/bubble tea cup costume I made a couple years ago. I typically don’t dedicate this much time and effort into a costume, but in the past few years have done so for the Halloween costume contest at work (which I won first place for three consecutive years). The two previous costumes I made for the contests were my popular Black Swan inspired ballet tutu and the star constellation Cassiopeia. For this boba cup costume, I did a variation on this Oh Happy Day costume how to. Because the costume specs are for a child, I actually did stay almost to the measurements, but I added straps to the top of the cup so that I didn’t need to cut arm holes through the plastic film and poster board center tube. I also substituted some materials such as using posterboard instead of corrugated cardboard for the center tube, and used a different kind of vinyl for the cup layer. I also added a custom touch by cutting a vinyl sign and adhering to the front of the cup. I should have stuck to the plastic material that was listed on Oh Happy Day, because i think it would have been much more stiff and structured compared to the plastic materials that I used (which had more give to it so it sagged a little bit). Overall, I like how it turned out and it was a hit - especially at my local boba shop! I included which materials I used for this costume below, check it out!
Materials I Used for the Boba /Bubble Tea Cup Halloween Costume
22. x 28 Posterboard (get as many pieces or larger poster board you need to wrap around your body and leave enough room), same poster board used for the straw headpiece
1” White Nylon Webbing (for straps if you want to add straps)
4 x 4 x 4 Acrylic Gift Boxes (for ice cubes)
Cannon Ball Water Balloons (get a hand or automatic pump)
Iridescent Cellophane Wrap (for the top film of the cup and
Holographic Vinyl (used to create stripes on the straw)
Metal Headband (I created the straw with a leftover piece of cardboard, added stripes with the holographic vinyl and taped onto the headband)
I repurposed large cardboard boxes I had gotten from packages for the base of my boba cup
Tools: Hot Glue + Hot Glue Gun, Clear Packing Tape, Scissors and Measuring Tape Compass (I just cut a string to my desired radius length held the end down in the center and the other end tied to a pencil which I used to straw the diameter on the cardboard to cut out)
