Vintage Elegance Style Real Wedding at the Resort at Pelican Hill - Nov 2017
When Shawna (Bleudog Floral) asked if I wanted to assist her in florals for a small wedding at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, I immediately jumped on board. This ceremony and reception involved an intimate group of 15 guests (including Bride and Groom), with a circular ceremony held within Pelican Hill's iconic rotunda overlooking the ocean. Cocktail hour followed on the lawn in front of the rotunda, then guests were ushered to the Mar Vista Terrace. I really enjoyed assisting Shawna with this wedding as it's a great way to gain the behind-the-scenes wedding experience as we essentially also styled the event space. I also didn't know that Pelican Hill hosted small wedding parties; in the past, I was apart of or attended much larger weddings (which I loved) - but this is a nice change in dynamic.
FLORAL DESIGN
The bride requested pops of merlot, therefore a deep burgundy hue was incorporated into the floral arrangements with 'Tess' garden roses, 'Tinto' Peruvian roses and New Zealand 'Christmas Velvet' peonies - mixed with various blush and cream flowers. The arrangements were placed in stained wood boxes on the dining tables, as well as in rustic wood bark type containers styled around the cocktail hour and reception space. For more floral elements, we placed flowers in votives, and Shawna embellished a faux twig wreath with flowers and greenery - the best part was the wreath was placed at the gate to the terrace and lit up with little LED lights which created a whimsical touch to greet guests.
FURNITURE - DECOR RENTALS + STYLING
Vintage furniture and decor rentals were brought in by Birdie in a Barn. To complete the entire look, a plush velvet burgundy couch was the statement piece of the reception space and balanced by two wooden nightstands and white chairs. We then had an array of sizes in simple iron & glass lanterns to display all around the space - we placed some at the terrace entrance, as well as framing the fireplace and fountain. To add the finishing touch, we placed votives and hurricane candles all throughout the space. In the evening the soft candlelight from all the candles really added to the mood of the reception.
