Pioneertown in California
On the way back from visiting Joshua Tree National Park, Jen and I stopped in at Pioneertown. It looked completely deserted and we felt transported back into the times of the Old West. Pinoneertown was built as a movie set in the 1940s by a group of Hollywood investors including actors Roy Rogers and Gene Autry - more than 50 films and television shows were filmed here between the 40s-50s. Today, you can visit and still see mock gun fights as well as visit some active businesses. Although nothing was open when we visited, it was still fun to get to feel like we were in another time. Stop into Pappy + Harriet's Pioneertown Palace for live music artists and delicious food, and get the full Western desert experience by staying at the redesigned and renovated Pioneertown Motel.
