Ugo Rondinone's Seven Magic Mountains in Nevada
I was ecstatic to get the opportunity to stop at the Seven Magic Mountains on the way to Las Vegas last month; seven vibrant rock totem poles stand in a vast stretch of Mojave desert landscape. It is an art installation created by artist Ugo Rondinone and it is open to the public for viewing. It was exciting to drive on empty road leading up to the installation and see a small glimpse of the neon rocks while we were approaching the entrance. After parking and making a short trek to the artwork, I was in awe to actually see and experience the towering size of the rock structures. The stacked rocks create this powerful presence in the vast space around us.
I highly recommend stopping in at the Seven Magic Mountains whether on the way or leaving Vegas (although I suggest on the way to Vegas as it seems easier to access). It's a wonderful sight to see and has great photo opportunities - take a walk through and around the entire installation to see the artwork at different perspectives. It is also interesting to experience the Seven Magic Mountains at different times of the day.
The exhibition opened on May 11, 2016 and will be available for viewing for 2 years. For more information on how to visit, click here! To learn more about the exhibition and artist, click here!
About the Seven Magic Mountains
Internationally renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains is a large-scale site-specific public art installation located near Jean Dry Lake and Interstate 15, approximately ten miles south of Las Vegas, Nevada. Comprised of seven towers of colorful, stacked boulders standing more than thirty feet high, Seven Magic Mountains is situated within the Ivanpah Valley adjacent to Sheep Mountain and the McCullough, Bird Spring, and Goodsprings ranges of mountains. A creative expression of human presence in the desert, Seven Magic Mountains punctuates the Mojave with a poetic burst of form and color. The exhibition opened May 11, 2016 and will be on view for two years.
