Watercolor & Wine with K Mala Studio, Laguna Beach
I had discovered watercolor artist Kim of K.Mala Studio on instagram awhile back and was just in awe of her sheer talent. I've tried my hand at watercolor painting, and it was difficult at times depending on what I wanted to create; I feel that you must have the steadiest of hands and know how to use the right amount of pressure to be able to lay the paint and water the way you want it on the paper to avoid having it bleed or run all over the page unless of course, that is your intention. Kim paints anything from animals (like these awesome pet portraits) and people to fruits and flowers; you name it! She creates the darn cutest hand painted calendars that I will need to snag for my desk space.
At the end of the summer, K.Mala Studio officially set up shop within the creative space, Sourced Collective in Laguna Beach, thus providing a permanent studio space for Kim to practice and display her craft, meet clients, and hold watercolor workshop events and private sessions. The most recent, and recurring Watercolor & Wine Workshop occurred on 10/28 with an open theme but was filled with inspiration for autumn things like pumpkins and warm tones; and of course guests enjoyed wine and cupcakes from Susie Cakes. Although I arrived a little bit late, Kim immediately welcomed me and helped me gather my painting materials while I grabbed a glass of wine. Each guest received their own watercolor palette, a pencil/eraser/sharpener kit, and a watercolor tip sheet. I was inspired by the coral on the table display and started painting the coral which led to adding in a magical mermaid. See how it turned out below! And attend the next Watercolor & Wine Workshop on Tuesday December 30th (more details below) for $40. You get to take home your supplies, meet new people, and bring out your inner artist; it was so exciting to see everyone's watercolor creations. If you want to meet Kim and check out her studio space within the Sourced Collective, she is hosting a truck show with Bijouterie Jewelry this Saturday from 12-4pm at Sourced.
