The Bari Studio Newport Beach
I was beyond thrilled when The Bari Studio reached out to me to try a class at their newly opened Newport Beach location. The Bari Studio offers hybrid workouts featuring three core elements: sensory cardio, trampoline cardio, and muscle sculpting! Are you intrigued yet? First time students are introduced to the Barimethod with the introductory BariONE class which takes you through all three core elements to prepare you for the other Bari classes offered. I took class with head trainer Michelle Pellizzon, whom I grew up dancing ballet with and hadn't seen in 10+ years so it was really awesome to get back into the studio with her and have her give me the best workout of my life.
I made sure to check out Bari's Roadmap to see what I needed to bring and wear to be prepared for the class: water and anything that I would usually run and sweat in; so I got to product test my new Lululemon Hot Spell Bra which I picked up at the Mission Viejo Grand Opening, layered with Solow's Muscle Sweatshirt, Target's C9 by Champion Leggings (similar style here), and Asics sneakers (similar styles here).
Before class started, Michelle explained the origins of Bari and the class breakdown, how each class will always be a little different, as well as have us put on heart rate monitors. As you can see by my photo collage a little ways below, I was quite fascinated by seeing my heart rate monitor sync to the screen that displayed all the students' heart rates in real time. It's informative and motivating to challenge myself more during class because I can see where my heart rate percentage is at.
We started off with stretching and then right into moving with a high-energy sequence that involved runs, jumping jacks, lunges, grapevines, more jumping jacks, and a whole lot of fun. I most admit I was losing a little bit of steam early on in the sequence, but Michelle is really great at keeping you moving and pushing yourself. I got to try the resistance bands that hung from the ceiling for the first time, and that was a struggle but it was an exciting and new, interesting resistance workout (aka need to work on my arms). Onto the trampoline cardio which was filled with an array of jumps and kicks, and a little bit of coordination adding in arm extensions. It took me a little awhile to get my body placement right since I was not used to the rebounding motion of my legs, but still lots of fun! We finished the class with muscle sculpting using weights and skimmers. I was also a newbie to the skimmers and it was really exciting to use them for abs, arms, and just an overall full body burn with the exercises that Michelle had us do.
