Reviving Wilting Hydrangeas
I was happy to kick off the spring season with really wilted hydrangeas that I brought back to life!!! I’ve done the fully submerge the hydrangeas in water in my sink trick before, but it didn’t work this time though so I found this hack from @fraicheliving!
I was a bit skeptical since it requires really hot water and my blooms looked like they were at the point of no revival, but it worked the first time for a couple stems, and I then tried it a second time for the remaining bunch and all petals perked right back up! I don’t know at which point hydrangeas can no longer be revived, but these bunches were about 3 days old from the date of purchasing.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Boil water, set aside to cool slightly
2. Trim ends at 45 degree angle of hydrangeas stems on the cutting on board with a knife (this was way easier than with scissors for me since I don’t have florist tools)
3. Cut a small slit up the stem to the middle
4. Pour hot water into a vase and place stems into it and let sit minimum 1 hour (the second batch that I did with newly boiled water I let sit for another 2 hours or so)
5. Place in vase with fresh water
I got this checkered vase from TJ Maxx, but couldn’t find it online, so I linked a few options below.
