Upscale Japanese Restaurant Izakaya Osen Now Open in Irvine, CA
I had seen Izakaya Osen pop up on Instagram a few times and finally got to try it when I took my brother for his birthday. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but it’s a beautiful and tasty experience. Sister restaurant to Izakaya Osen in LA (Silverlake) and Omakase by Osen. I made a reservation for opening (12pm) on Saturday just in case, but when we got there a few minutes before doors opened, it looked like it was easy to get a table as a walk in. Although within the hour the restaurant filled up quickly.
We decided on sitting up at the bar - we were given the menu on a tablet and ordered with the server instead of the chefs up at the sushi bar. I just wish we would have been able to have our own menus, but we’re trying to share looking at the tablet, scrolling and figuring out what we want to eat. The space is so modern and beautifully decorated with touches of Japanese minimalism. Where nature and zen meets upscale, luxury.
We ordered three different sashimi fish toro (tuna belly) which was topped with caviar & gold flake 👌🏼, hamachi (yellowtail) and bincho maguro (albacore). And also enjoyed agadashi tofu as a starter, as well as kushiyaki skewers: prime beef, jidori chicken liver & quail egg (the char and sauce on these skewers was so good).
