Palm Springs Weekend Trip with a Dog

For my 34th birthday, I just wanted to take a trip with my dog Lucky, so Scott and I looked into a quick trip to Palm Springs.

We headed out to the desert for a Sunday to Monday trip. On the way there, we of course did a pit stop at the Cabazon Dinosaurs, we then went to brunch at Boozehounds which is a dog friendly restaurant. Afterwards, we checked into the Kimpton Rowan, which is SUCH a dog friendly hotel, I still can’t get over how dog friendly it is. And it’s also in a really great location - right in Downtown Palm Springs at center of the city so it’s close to shops and restaurants. Although for dinner, we just stuck to the hotel and had a nice drink and meal at the Juniper Table (and Lucky was able to tag along).

On the way home from Palm Springs, we stopped in at the Desert Hills Premium Outlets. It was such a good time to go since it was a Monday morning (which also meant we were able to get into Gucci without having to wait in a 2 hour line!).

I’m just so happy that we got to pull off this trip with Lucky, granted it was still super hot, but we managed to make a fun trip out of it and stayed cool as much as we could.

It’s super easy to stop in to see the Cabazon Dinosaurs! Now, they get painted seasonally, and you can just park and walk up and take pics or video. There is an additional “Dinosaur Park” attraction that you can pay to go through if you’d like! It was fun to be able to take Lucky with us to this tourist spot!

ABOUT CABAZON DINOSAURS

The Cabazon Dinosaurs have long been regarded as one of the most iconic roadside attractions. Featured in cult classics such as Pee Wee Herman’s Big Adventure and The Wizard, the dinosaurs have staked their place in pop culture.

Mr. Rex (Supersaur) and Dinny (aka Pumpkinsaurus) will be decked out in their fall costumes until first week of November 2022.

Mr. Rex, Dinny and their more than 50 dinosaur friends provide perfect picture photo ops for you and your loved ones. Our dinosaur walk features a slew of dinosaurs, a dino dig and fossil panning that kids will enjoy.

After the dinosaurs, we went to get brunch at Boozehounds Palm Springs which is a super dog-friendly spot! The aesthetics of this restaurant are 100% - since we were with Lucky we had to sit outside (totally fine), I was a little sticky since it was super hot but we at least had shade and misters! For Lucky, we were able to get him a mat to lay on, and a water bowl. There’s also a dog menu, but because we were dining during brunch there was only one item available for dogs during that time. And unfortunately, the brunch food dish for dogs had something ingredients that Lucky was allergic to, so I gave him some extra treats. I had the avocado poke toast, and Scott got the breakfast burger. Check out all of the menus here.

We then checked into the Kimpton Rowan hotel, and we were immediately greeted with smiles and treats for Lucky. We had him in his tropical shirt, so people loved it! Aside from the staff actually being into dogs, we didn’t have to reserve a dog-friendly room, or make any special kind of accommodations. We also didn’t need to pay a pet fee or any additional fees to bring Lucky. We just let the front desk know that we had a dog and while they were preparing our room, a dog bed and bowls were brought over.

Before dinner we stopped in at the lobby for a complimentary happy hour, then went to the hotel restaurant , Juniper Table - which we were able to bring Lucky to as well. He even got a couple of treats on a dinner plate! Next day we checked out and headed to the Desert Hills Premium Outlets. Although there was no wait at Gucci, I didn’t end up getting anything from there but did pick up a wallet from Prada. It was nice not having to stand in the heat to get into a store. Overall a nice trip, and if you’re looking to do a weekend trip/staycation in Palm Springs with your pup, I recommend a visit to Boozehounds PS and staying at the Kimpton Rowan!
