Moody Grey Mauve Purple Bridesmaid Dresses with Birdy Grey
You may have seen my bridesmaid dresses in this post featuring the faux leather jackets they had paired with their dresses, but I wanted to feature their dresses specifically. I felt so blessed when I got connected with Grace, the co-founder and CEO of bridesmaid dress company Birdy Grey - based out of Los Angeles, CA. She personalized the bridesmaid selection process for me regardless of the brand not having a storefront. The company’s mission is to provide quality dresses for only $99 a dress - yes you read right. Especially, if you’ve been searching for dresses and have seen how bridesmaid dresses alone can run $250+ a dress.
At the time that I was looking to select bridesmaid dresses, the styles and colors were not as extensive as they are now. And since my wedding, they have expanded to offering more color and fabric options, but also groomsmen’s matching accessories, robes, gifts and more.
For selecting the dresses, I knew it would be quite the undertaking before me since. wanted to mix and match styles and colors (as well as coordinating mix & matched groomsmens’ suits). I informed my bridal party of the colors I was looking at choosing & mix and matching together, and had each bridesmaid submit their top 3 favorite styles. I compiled a list of their faves and picked out swatches to be sent to me so I could see how colors and fabrics looked before meeting up with Grace in LA and two of my bridesmaids to do a fitting. I originally had wanted a mix of greys, taupe or light pink and mauves, but after having the line up dresses in front of me during the fitting, we ended up taking out the taupe colored dress. To help with the selection process, my maid of honor had created a collage of the exact dress side by side so we could see how the line up would look. But it was a pretty stressful process since I needed to select a dress that each bridesmaid preferred along with a color that would suit their complexion and make sure it wasn’t the same color as the bridesmaid that would be standing next to her during the ceremony.
To give you an idea of where I had started with my bridesmaid inspiration (and originally, I had wanted to put my maid and matron of honor into different dresses that had a print or pattern/texture, but I ended up just going forward with Birdy Grey):

Overall, the girls all loved their dresses and the quality was the same if not better than prominent bridesmaid dress brands. There were enough layers to each dress so that it wasn’t transparent at all, and the skirt of the dresses were full and the fabric felt luxe whether chiffon polyester or tulle. The fits were great - no one had to get theirs altered, although the dresses are longer to allow for hemming. I was very very pleasantly surprised since I had worn a Show Me Your Mumu bridesmaid dress in a previous wedding, and I felt it didn’t compare to the quality of these Birdy Grey dresses. They also have many dresses that are convertible styles so this allows for much more flexibility in fit which helped alot with my bridesmaids that needed more support up top or wanted to play around with neckline/strap options.
For the bridesmaids that could not attend the fitting, I hosted a mimosa bar bridesmaid dress try-on session for them in case any of the dresses needed to be returned for another size, but they all fit well on each girl so they took their dresses home with them. The dresses we ended up getting were:
Jules in Silver | Jane in Dark Mauve | Christina in Slate and Silver | Gwennie in Dark Mauve | Ryan in Silver | Chicky in Mauve
I couldn’t be more happy and thrilled with how my bridal party looked, and it’s because they felt beautiful in what they were wearing as well. The last thing I want is for anyone to feel uncomfortable or hate the dress that they are wearing. And the only feedback I received were all raving about the dresses. Every time I see someone I know getting married and are wedding planning, I suggest Birdy Grey dresses - great price point, amazing selection, high-quality styles and wonderful customer service. What more could you ask for?! Whether you’re looking to match styles & colors, coordinate just the color, or mix and match colors and styles (like I did), I found it very helpful to create collages and mood boards so I could see a visualization of the dresses and colors. It’s hard for me to just work it out in my head, so having the images before me really helped with the selection process. Good luck on your wedding planning!
