Sustainable Swaps with a Compostable Fiber Bottle Brush

Using Natural Fiber Bottle Brush Amanda N Hammond

I’ve got another, easy sustainable swap for you. If you’ve encountered the problem of trying to properly clean out a reusable water bottle properly , you are not alone. Some bottles are so narrow that you can’t fit a brush or sponge down it to clean it out. But I have a solution for you - this narrow long bottle scrub brush from Veri Vera, and the best part is it’s sustainable!

The brush bristles are made of dried coconut husks, the handle is wooden and there is a natural cotton loop at the bottom of the handle to hang it. The brush should last 6 months to 2 years dependent on usage, and once it can’t be used for cleaning bottles anymore it can be used for household cleaning. Once there’s no life left to it whatsoever, the bristles, handle and cotton loop are home compostable and the metal wire within the bristles is recyclable.

I use the brush with my solid soap, and I like how easy it is to scrub the inside of my resuable bottles. It’s just abrasive enough to do the job. In between uses, I use the loop to hang it to dry. The wooden handle has antimicrobial properties, but If I need to sanitize the bristles, I can use vinegar. Shop this narrow brush and an extra long brush here.
