MoDo Hawaii Mochi Donuts - Irvine, CA

I happened to be stopping in the Japanese market Mitsuwa in Irvine when I noticed the MoDo Hawaii sign. I had been wanting to try their mochi donuts ever since they started their pop up, which I later found out was made into a permanent location earlier in the month. This is such great news!

I ordered half a dozen, and since I didn’t really know which flavors to choose I selected a variety. There are flavors that are available every day, then 2 flavors that are changed up daily. I chose Matcha, Black Sesame, Honey Glaze, Cookies & Cream, Blueberry and Sugar - check out all the flavors here. Walk in or order online!

I really liked these mochi donuts! They were warm so very chewy and light - and all the flavors were delicious! If you’re trying mochi donuts for the first time and are hesitant on flavors, you can try something classic like honey glaze or sugar which is reminiscent of the regular glazed and sugar coated donuts. The blueberry is a little more on the sweet/tarte side, and I imagine the other fruit flavors that they do would be as well. I loved matcha and black sesame the most as I was craving those flavors profiles, and I think they were encapsulated well in these donut glazes. I didn’t get a chance to try cookies & cream since that donut was reserved for Scott, but he really really loved it and wanted to eat 10 more haha! We will definitely be back - I ‘m curious to try the various flavors of the rotating menu.
