Black Lives Matter - What You Can Do
I’m still trying to navigate through this all, but one this is for sure - Enough is Enough and we cannot let history repeat itself. I’m still taking some time to process what’s happening - which I thought would come more easily being a women of color, having dealt with racism growing up and it being amplified by the pandemic. But I’ve also lived with privilege, and my own racial experiences are in no way comparable to the hundreds of years of oppression and discrimination to black communities all over the nation (and world). The time to stand up, re-educate ourselves, transform our mentality and create change is now. We cannot just be blasé / non-racist, but strive to be anti-racist and expelling it from our lives and budding generations. It has to happen NOW.
Always continue to spread love and kindness.
I’ve been sharing (and will continue to share) resources that I’ve found helpful as well as positive glimpses from the protests on my stories (and move onto my blog as well), and if you’re looking to contribute:
From @ellamosco - here are organizations that you can donate to and learn more from (some may have capped their donations already due to overwhelming responses):
@mnfreedomfund has raised over $20 million dollars and is asking to redirect donations to @blackvisionscollective + @reclaimtheblock . If you’ve already donated to these organizations, here are a few additional ones you can monetarily support: @bailproject, @fairfightaction, @nonewjails_nyc, as well as The National Bail Fund Network, North Star Health Collective, and Communities United Against Police Brutality.
Stay enraged and do the work. Keep calling, keep emailing, and DONATE if you can. Support local organizations who are providing support and challenging white supremacy.
I’m taking this week to really dive into systemic racism, how the asian community has contributed to white supremacy in our country and go through deep unlearning, learning, reflection, all of it. I will continue to post resources on my blog as I come across the (but will be more active on my instagram since it is more efficient to share information there). We are in this together and there is no going back - this is not a trend and we are going to create REAL change.
