Marugame Udon and Tempura Now Open at South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa

Marugame Udon & Tempura have officially opened their Orange County location in Costa Mesa at South Coast Plaza. Located on the first floor under local favorite Din Tai Fung, Marugame offers made-to-order Japanese Sanuki Udon noodles, fresh Tempura, musubi and more! There are over 1,000 locations worldwide and the next is opening in Berkeley, CA.

I've experienced Marugame one other time at their Sawtelle location, and was more than ecstatic to find out that their OC location would be so close to me! I also enjoy seeing dishes being made before my eyes, so it was fun to follow the process of seeing the udon noodles being made, to placed in a bowl with your selected broth and meat/toppings, then having the option to add on katsu or tempura and a side of musubi (which is all made fresh in house) to complete my meal. I'm actually quite surprised at the price point, as a regular sized bowl of udon ranges from $5.00 to $12.50 dependent on type of broth and ingredients included. All the udon bowls you see in the video are regular size and MORE than enough for my friend and I - granted we were sharing 4 different types of udon, but if I were to just order 1 bowl, I would have been full.

I like that there's a great variety of udon here, my friend and I tried the Tonkotsu, Curry, Nikutama and Mentai Kamatama Udons; and everything was delicious! What kind of udon do you like to eat?

My brother and I tried to pop in last Sunday around 12pm, and it was PACKED. So much so that there was a line outside the restaurant as well as along a wall across from the restaurant. Therefore, I suggest trying to go right before they open, or during a weekday around the time that they open.
