Vegan Brunch at Sun Cafe Organic in Los Angeles
Blogger Jill of JillxStyle invited me to an organic, vegan brunch at SunCafe in Studio City, CA for the pre-launch of her business Berry Beauty Bag. She is a major boss babe and I was excited to not only get to try a new restaurant, vegan dishes and experience Berry Beauty Bag but also be surrounded by so many inspiring women in the blogging industry.
SunCafe has received numerous accolades such as Top 10 Restaurants in Los Angeles County by OpenTable, Best Ambience, Overall Restaurant, Outdoor Dining Experience and many more - see them all here. I've experienced raw and or vegan-type restaurants 2-3 times before SunCafe and am always quite excited to try vegan because it's interesting to see and taste meat, dairy and any other animal alternatives.
SunCafe is a vegan oasis tucked away on Ventura Blvd (I'm not well acquainted with the area, but they are located 5 minutes away from Universal Studios). At first it was a bit difficult for me to find the restaurant since it's actually pushed back from the street at the end of a parking lot. But I circled a couple times and after looking up and seeing a huge billboard that said 'SunCafe Here', or something like that, I drove towards the sign and could then see where to turn in. Parking is very limited in the lot but I got lucky, typically there is valet available (Friday-Sunday) but for that particular Sunday there didn't seem to be valet. But there's ample metered 2-hour street parking or a free lot across the street.
The restaurant had a welcoming entrance covered in lush greenery which leads to a quaint outside seating area including a luxe fire pit area, then ending with a cottage-style restaurant. The inside dining area has a very warm and inviting atmosphere, great for small to large parties.
After picking out my panda Berry Beauty Bag, I started off brunch with a strawberry mimosa then ordered a smoothie bowl and bagel & schmear. While reviewing the brunch menu, I was really impressed with the variety of sweet and savory breakfast/brunch dishes and was curious as to how certain elements like eggs and cheese would taste with its vegan ingredient substitutions. Aside from the beautiful plated presentation of each dish, everyone loved the flavors of their meal - I was especially blown away by the cheese substitute items, because although I am a fan of cheese, after experiencing SunCafe I am seriously considering giving up dairy (as I have been dealing with stomach issues lately which I feel is attributed to my tremendous dairy intake). The menu offerings are a majority gluten free or have a gluten free option and range from starters like bruschetta, nachos and avocado toast; to brunch faves like Belgian waffles, an omelet, pancakes and French toast, as well as salads, soups, pizzas, sandwiches, dessert, smoothies, juices and cocktails - see the full brunch menu here. We all split the Almond Butter Cheesecake which was absolutely divine; I already like almond butter as it is, so I was definitely interested to see how it would come together into a cheesecake dish, which was very delicious and decadent.
All in all, I really enjoyed my experience at SunCafe - the food is heavenly, the atmosphere is light, airy and just lively enough and they also have a happy hour and dinner service, and offer sixteen unique organic vegan wines sold by the glass and forty-two selections sold by the bottle. If you're not able to dine in, there's a delivery option or they offer pick ups (and there is a pick up parking spot so you can pull right in and easily grab your order. Come visit SunCafe:
