Visiting the Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle
Chihuly Garden and Glass, an exhibition of Dale Chihuly's glass blown masterpieces curated through eight galleries, a Glasshouse and lush garden was the perfect way to spend a portion of my visit in Seattle. I grew up attending the local arts and crafts show, Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach, CA and was always mesmerized by the glassblowing demonstrations. It is a tedious process and I am always amazed at how a magnificent vase or animal figurine is created from granules of colored glass.
Experiencing the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit opened up my mind to a whole other world of glass blown artwork and sculptures. Chihuly really pushed the creative boundaries to form and put together his pieces; the result, a very visually awe striking experience leaving me speechless and inspired. I first saw Chihuly's work at the Bellagio in Las Vegas; the ceiling of the hotel's lobby is covered in colorful, blooming glass sculptures.
We took advantage of a package deal in which we paid around $38 for admission to the Chihuly exhibition as well as entry to the Space Needle! We purchased the tickets via phone and were given barcodes that could be scanned from our phone for entry. Photo taking is permitted (obviously, you can see by scrolling down), but any cameras or phones can not be mounted onto a tripod or similar structure. We were staying in downtown Seattle, and were able to easily get to the Seattle Center where Chihuly Garden and Glass and the Space Needle are located, via the Seattle Monorail ($2.25 on way, $4.50 round trip).
