LED Flowers at the DDP - Dongdaemun Design Plaza 동대문디자인플라자 in Seoul, Korea
Jen took me to the most magical art installation on the grounds of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (동대문디자인플라자) "DDP" in Seoul, South Korea. I can't find the actual title for this art installation but it consist of over 25,000 artificial roses that illuminate with LED lights at night (and apparently from what I read on a couple travel blogs, the lights do shut off at around 11pm). These roses were installed here to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Gwangbokjeol, Korea's National Liberation Day.
It's beautiful to see how the flowers glow along the sides of walkways and all around the outside courtyard area - they are also a beautiful sight during the daytime. The area is open and free to the public and it's located on the roof of the DDP (4th floor) near the Yigansumun Exhibition Hall; to my knowledge, you can access it when the DDP is closed on Mondays as it is located outside and not inside the DDP buildings. During the daytime, you'll find lots of people out and about, and there's also yummy street food and beverages in this area to take advantage of.
Although Jen and I didn't really get the opportunity to explore the DDP and all of its exhibition halls (the DDP buildings are as if they were pulled out of a sci-fi movie), I'm glad we got to stop by to see this! We will definitely have to come back as I feel I could spend hours here (the DDP is also the home of Seoul Fashion Week - perhaps a fashion week trip on the horizon?). I'm not quite sure when this LED rose garden exhibit is coming to an end, but it looks as if it has been extended a few times! See below on how to get to the DDP:
