Hylunia Wellness Med Spa, Costa Mesa

Mary of The Recessionista invited myself and fellow bloggers for an event at the Hylunia Wellness MD Spa in Costa Mesa. I happily obliged as I do like spa-anything, and to my pleasant surprise; Hylunia offered much more than a typical massage or spa treatment. This place transports its guests to the wonderful paradise of Bali; with furnishings all handcrafted in Bali, calm blue lighting, a really cool fiber optic 'starry'-lit ceiling, sanctuary suite (guests take a virtual tour to Bali while relaxing in comfy chaise lounges), and unique massage and facial & scrub rooms. Hylunia is indeed a wellness spa for the body and for beauty; but also for the mind and spirit with yoga and cooking classes and workshops. The spa only uses toxin free, paraben free, gluten free, GMO free, preservative free, holistic and vegan products.
I was instantly greeted (but not bombarded) by the spa founder Dr. Lingam and host Timea, then received a tour by spa director Charlie before changing into a robe and slippers for my meditation and massage treatment with therapist Teryn.
Guests get their own locker with a perfectly folded robe and slippers to wear in the restrooms which are also equipped with showers and toiletries for refreshing. The meditation took place in the sanctuary suite; dimly lit with an underwater scene projected onto the wall, filled with the soothing sounds of trickling water; guests laid on the Balinese chaise lounges and used virtual goggles to watch scenes of tropical islands and Bali landscapes, soar over oceans and through clouds while listening to relaxing words from Dr. Lingam.
After meditation ended, my therapist Teryn scooped me up and took me to the therapy room where she let me select from a list of Pandora stations for music as well as an aromatherapy scent for body typing, gave me a hot towel foot wrap finished with colloidal spray and rose water mist, then an amazing customized massage that included stress relief and chakra aligning, and Sassi® Stone application.
I had never had a chakra alignment before and enjoyed what an eye-opening experience it was. There was a different colored stone and corresponding aromatherapy spray; one at a time, a stone would be placed at the chakra point on my spine leading up to the crown of my head. When the stone was placed, Teryn would spray the oils into her hand and have me take deep breaths of it as she said words of intention.
Not only did I leave the spa with a goody bag of Hylunia products and a lifetime membership card which I can't wait to use; but I had a renewed sense of self, balance, and serenity!
