Food | Bourbon Street for Lent
Shrimp & Grits- White hominy cheddar grits with buttered Cajun shrimp, tomatillo pico de gallo and fresh cilantro
Grilled Salmon with Lemon Caper Sauce- Blackened with a lemon caper sauce then served with dirty rice and seasonal veggies
You may have read my Destination Irvine piece on the restaurant Bourbon Street
for Mardi Gras celebrations, and I'm excited to share some of my faves from the
restaurant as well as the culinary delights that will be Lent-friendly
during the entire month of March!
Lent is a religious holiday
observed during a period of time leading up to Easter where fasting and
abstinence takes place. Fasting minimizes the quantity of food intake
and abstinence is not eating meat. The rule of thumb is usually smaller
and simpler food; a light breakfast, one full meal and one half meal each
fast day.
So for that one full meal, try an exciting dish over at Bourbon Street in Downtown Fullerton! The lent-friendly menu includes Blackened Sole ($17), Grilled Salmon with Lemon Caper
Sauce ($18), Shrimp & Grits ($14), and VooDoo Shrimp ($19)! I had
the pleasure of enjoying the Grilled Salmon and Shrimp &
Grits, and out of the two I would have to say I enjoyed the Shrimp &
Grits the most due to it's cheesy goodness and zesty and tangy flavors. If you are not going for a Lenten meal, enjoy other Bourbon Street faves; Louisiana Fries, Bruschetta, Beignets (the server said that the Bananas Foster is also UH-MAZING) and the Big Sexy caraf style adult-beverage....YUM.
