Fashion | Style Series: Lunar New Year with Thai Nguyen Collections
If you didn't know, I am of Vietnamese descent and celebrate Chinese New Year, or as I like to refer it to, Tết, (Vietnamese) Lunar New Year. The new year celebrations kicking off the beginning of Spring, start tomorrow Friday January 31 on the first new moon and lasts 15 days ending on a full moon day. During that time, I'll visit family members wishing them a new year of prosperity, good health, and happiness over delicious food, and receive red envelopes (I won't get as much as I used to because I'm older, but they are filled with crisp money). It is also the time that families clean the home, it's our 'spring cleaning', which can explain why I've been on a de-cluttering binge and clean lately.
All around the world, local China Towns, and for me, Orange County's more Vietnamese influenced area such as Westminster and Garden Grove will hold big 'Spring Festivals' with live music, games, food, firecrackers, lion dances, parades and people dressed in authentic, traditional garments. I'm most excited to ring in Tết with a style series in collaboration with Vietnamese designer, Thai Nguyen. Three Vietnamese 'áo dài' ('ow yai'- Traditional Vietnamese Long Dresses) looks will be released starting tomorrow; the first RED for luck and joy, the second GOLD for wealth and prosperity, and the third YELLOW for spring, renewal and awakening. I can't wait for you to see each look! Chúc Mừng Năm Mới (Happy New Year!)
