{Fashion | Indigo Showroom}
In between shows during New York Fashion Week, I had the chance to make it down to Indigo Showroom to view a couple of their Womens Designer FW13 Collections for Market Week. I got an up close look and snapped photos of the Japanese brand Il by Saori Komatsu and New York brand shadowconnected.
I enjoyed seeing the contrast in collections--the first, Il by Saori Komatsu, being more feminine with an underlying tone of seduction through the silk tanks, dresses, and flouncy skirts, romantic cinched & billowed kind of sleeved sweaters, high-waisted knitted skirts, and fur mixed with cable knit. I would wear every piece in a heartbeat.The collection maintained a neutral color palette with pops of magenta, mint, blue. Did you know that the collection was constructed with a method called WHOLE GARMENT, in which a single thread is used to make each entire garment?! I couldn't even begin to fathom how one (very) long thread could make up a sweater or bottom, how do they do it? Well, I figure it's just like when you knit something, but I just wondered exactly how the process is done to create these pieces. The second collection, shadowconnected, was on the opposite end of femininity with androgynous pieces. A simpler color palette of black, white, grey, and cobalt blue was highlighted by boxier cuts, cool cut outs and color blocking, leather vests, and tailor jackets. Each piece is bold, empowering, and would be quite unique to have in one's wardrobe. The designer, Ji Oh, searches for the fabrics and materials herself before constructing the garments!
